Show the stay guests will actually experience

A useful accommodation gallery answers practical questions quickly: where guests sleep, whether they can work, what the kitchen offers, how the bathroom looks and what outdoor space is available. Attractive photos matter, but accurate photos help set the right expectations.

Prepare the property in its normal guest-ready configuration. Make beds, lay out towels, remove cleaning supplies and check that advertised amenities are visible.

Build your essential shot list

Start with a welcoming hero shot, then give each important space a clear photograph. Add details only where they help a guest make a decision.

  • Living and dining areas, with seating visible
  • Every bedroom and its sleeping layout
  • Kitchen, worktop space and notable equipment
  • Bathrooms and shower or bath
  • Workspace and Wi-Fi setup if advertised
  • Entrance, stairs and access information where useful
  • Outside space, parking and relevant views

Light and composition

Photograph at a time when rooms receive flattering natural light. Keep windows and walls upright, clear surfaces and show the relationship between spaces. Avoid filters that misrepresent wall colour or room brightness.

For smaller rooms, use a sensible wide angle without making the room look larger than it is. Guests should recognise the room when they arrive.

Editing that helps rather than misleads

Correcting exposure and colour and removing incidental clutter can improve a good original. Do not remove permanent obstructions, disguise wear or add amenities that guests will not receive. If you use illustrative staging for concept imagery, label it clearly rather than presenting it as a real guest-ready interior.

Keep the gallery current

Revisit the listing after refurbishments, furniture changes or alterations to guest facilities. A beautiful outdated gallery can create mismatched expectations and complaints.

Review the cover image on mobile, where many guests discover accommodation. It should remain legible and compelling at a small size.

Frequently asked questions

What should be the first photo of an Airbnb listing?

Choose a clear, inviting image of the space that best represents the stay—often the main living area, a standout bedroom or a genuine view.

Can I use digitally decluttered photos for a short let?

Light edits to remove temporary distractions can be appropriate if the result remains faithful to what guests will find. Do not conceal permanent defects or misrepresent amenities.
